SMC SLEX Inc., the tollway arm of San Miguel Corp. operating the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX), reported a 21 percent increase in net income to ₱1.16 billion for the first quarter of 2025, driven by higher daily vehicle traffic and sustained electronic toll collection.
The company saw a 13 percent rise in toll revenue to ₱2.18 billion, as average daily traffic reached 366,750 vehicles, up 3 percent year-on-year. A 99 percent adoption rate for RFID payments highlights the growing digitalization of toll operations, streamlining traffic flow and improving operational efficiency.
The company’s cost of services rose 10 percent to ₱526.5 million, mainly due to higher government fees linked to increased revenue and additional amortization costs from its ongoing expansion projects.
SLEX currently operates a 36.1-kilometer stretch from Alabang, Muntinlupa to Sto. Tomas, Batangas, serving as a critical logistics artery for Metro Manila and the CALABARZON region. The expressway connects with the Skyway System to the north and the Southern Tagalog Arterial Road (STAR) to the south.
SMC SLEX is also actively expanding with the ₱50-billion, 66.74-kilometer SLEX Toll Road 4 (TR4) project, which will link Sto. Tomas, Batangas to Lucena City, Quezon. Once completed in 2026, the project is expected to slash travel time from 3 hours to 45 minutes, significantly enhancing connectivity and boosting regional commerce.
The TR4 is divided into six sections and represents a major infrastructure investment intended to ease congestion and support economic growth in southern Luzon.
