Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) Governor Eli Remolona Jr. on Tuesday announced the appointment of Zeno Ronald R. Abenoja as the central bank’s new deputy governor, a key addition to the monetary authority’s top leadership. Abenoja becomes the fifth deputy governor, joining Chuchi G. Fonacier, Mamerto E. Tangonan, Bernadette Romulo-Puyat, and Elmore O. Capule.
A seasoned economist, Abenoja previously served as Assistant Governor for the Monetary Policy Sub-sector and Managing Director of the Department of Economic Research. His promotion underscores the BSP’s commitment to policy continuity amid evolving global economic challenges.
Governor Remolona’s selection highlights Abenoja’s deep expertise in macroeconomic issues such as output expansion, inflation, the balance of payments, and investment flows. Abenoja also brings high-level experience from the Department of Finance, where he served as undersecretary and chief economist, helping steer fiscal and structural reforms.
His appointment is expected to bolster the BSP’s analytical capacity as it navigates inflationary pressures, external vulnerabilities, and key reforms such as potential constitutional amendments aimed at attracting foreign investment.
The move is seen by analysts as a reaffirmation of the BSP’s data-driven approach and strategic alignment with national economic goals.
