Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon personally inspected six EDSA Busway stations—Monumento, Bagong Barrio, Balintawak, SM North, Philam, and Guadalupe—to ensure the full functionality of 18 elevators aimed at serving priority passengers, including senior citizens, pregnant women, and persons with disabilities.
The inspection reflects President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive to make public transport systems more accessible and convenient. It also underscores the Department of Transportation’s (DOTr) commitment to regulatory oversight, especially as it launches Phase 1 of the P252.8 million rehabilitation of the EDSA Busway stations.
Bidding for the rehabilitation project began in April, with documents available until Monday — the same day bids were opened. The DOTr has emphasized transparency, saying that bids exceeding the approved budget were automatically rejected. A pre-bid conference was scheduled a week earlier in Mandaluyong City.
Secretary Dizon also confirmed the suspension of privatization plans for the EDSA Busway’s operations and maintenance to allow focus on infrastructure upgrades, scheduled for completion by early 2026. Privatization will follow once the facilities meet accessibility and service standards.
The EDSA Busway Project, supported by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), is a key initiative aimed at improving transport efficiency and inclusivity along Metro Manila’s busiest corridor.
