GMA tops PH media in 2024 despite profit dip

GMA Network Inc. solidified its position as the country’s leading media company in 2024, dominating both broadcast and digital platforms, according to performance data presented at its annual stockholders’ meeting.

Citing Nielsen ratings, GMA president and CEO Gilberto R. Duavit, Jr. announced that the network’s flagship GMA channel maintained its lead with a 5.1 average rating in the National Urban TV Audience Measurement (NUTAM), outperforming TV5 (1.9) and its sister channel GTV (1.2). In the broader Philippine National TV Audience Measurement (PHINTAM), GMA also led with a 4.7 rating. Its programs overwhelmingly occupied top rankings—26 out of the top 30 shows in NUTAM and 27 in PHINTAM—with “Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho” topping both.

Radio performance was equally strong, with Super Radyo DZBB and DWLS 97.1 dominating Nielsen’s Mega Manila Radio Audience Measurement, gaining audience shares of 43.4 percent and 50.5 percent respectively. GMA’s regional AM and FM stations in Iloilo and Baguio also secured the No. 1 spots, while regional TV newscasts reached approximately 20 million viewers nationwide.

In the digital arena, GMA ranked as the top media company in Southeast Asia on Tubular Labs’ leaderboard for 11 straight months, accumulating 45.5 billion video views across Facebook, YouTube, and TikTok, and earning global rankings between 15th and 20th.

Despite these gains in reach and engagement, GMA’s consolidated net income dropped 35 percent year-on-year to P2.065 billion, with total revenue down 6 percent to P17.565 billion. Duavit emphasized the company’s focus on value optimization and sustaining competitiveness across both traditional and digital channels.

“As we go forward, no effort is spared towards achieving our objective of value optimization in the broadcast and digital spaces,” Duavit said.
