BSP Governor Remolona Honored by AICB for Regional Finance Leadership

Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) Governor Eli M. Remolona, Jr. has been conferred an Honorary Fellowship by the Asian Institute of Chartered Bankers (AICB), highlighting his pivotal role in financial modernization and regional policy integration. The award, presented during the 8th Chartered Banker Conferment in Kuala Lumpur on May 24, 2025, acknowledges Remolona’s “transformative contributions” to the banking sector, according to AICB chairman Tan Sri Azman Hashim.

The conferment reflects growing recognition of Remolona’s efforts to strengthen financial stability and promote digitalization, reforms closely aligned with BSP’s broader economic policy direction. In particular, his leadership is credited with advancing ASEAN financial integration—an agenda with significant implications for cross-border banking, regulatory harmonization, and capital mobility within the region.

In his remarks, Remolona framed the honor as emblematic of a collective push toward a more interconnected financial future. “The future of finance is regional,” he said, underscoring collaboration among ASEAN institutions as key to resilience and innovation.

The recognition also comes amid BSP’s ongoing initiatives to enhance financial inclusion, deepen capital markets, and future-proof monetary policy frameworks. Remolona’s prior roles, including his tenure at the Bank for International Settlements and the Asia School of Business, underscore his international stature and policy expertise.

The AICB Honorary Fellowship is one of the institution’s highest distinctions, awarded to individuals who demonstrate exceptional leadership and impact in global finance.
