A new 120-kilowatt peak (kWp) rooftop solar installation developed by Meralco’s renewable energy arm, MSpectrum Inc., has been officially turned over to DHL Supply Chain Philippines, marking another milestone in the country’s shift toward cleaner energy for commercial operations.
The system, mounted on the logistics giant’s training center in Sta. Rosa, Laguna, is expected to generate about 171,000 kilowatt hours (kWh) of clean electricity annually. According to MSpectrum, this output can offset approximately 121 metric tons of carbon emissions per year — equivalent to planting over 5,500 trees or eliminating more than 482,000 kilometers of vehicle travel.
“This is about more than just cost-efficiency,” said DHL country managing director Bevan Williams. “It just makes so much sense, not just for this generation, but for future generations as well. We’ll continue to invest in solar panels, and we look forward to expanding and strengthening this partnership with MSpectrum.”
Although project costs and potential savings were not disclosed, the installation underscores growing interest in distributed solar as a cost-effective and climate-friendly energy solution in the Philippines’ commercial and industrial sectors.
The latest project brings MSpectrum’s solar rooftop portfolio to more than 80 megawatts (MW), a capacity estimated to power around 40,000 households. The company has previously rolled out solar projects with high-profile clients including Philip Morris, Toyota, Ajinomoto, and PLDT.
Policy analysts view such initiatives as essential to the Philippines’ renewable energy targets. With mounting pressure on both public and private sectors to decarbonize, solar rooftop developments like these are increasingly seen as practical pathways to support the Department of Energy’s goal of reaching 35 percent renewable energy share in the country’s power mix by 2030.
As regulatory frameworks for distributed generation continue to evolve, partnerships like that of DHL and MSpectrum are becoming important test cases for how solar can scale sustainably in the corporate sector.
