ACEN unit powers Mapúa Malayan full renewable shift

Mapúa Malayan Colleges Laguna (Mapúa MCL) has fully shifted its entire Cabuyao, Laguna campus to renewable energy through a partnership with ACEN Renewable Energy Solutions (ACEN RES), reinforcing its commitment to sustainability and climate action.

The shift was facilitated under the Department of Energy’s Green Energy Option Program (GEOP), which allows qualified consumers to choose renewable energy suppliers. With this move, Mapúa MCL is expected to avoid approximately 91 tons of carbon dioxide emissions monthly.

ACEN RES awarded Mapúa MCL its gold “Powered by Renewable Energy” badge in recognition of the  school’s leading role in clean energy adoption. A switching ceremony and an educational session on renewable energy were held, engaging students in discussions about energy transition and sustainable development.

“Mapúa MCL is not only dedicated to providing quality education but also to safeguarding the future by embracing sustainability,” said Engr. Sheila Mina, ACEN RES VP and a Mapúa alumna. “Thank you, Mapúa, for being part of the solution.”

Mapúa MCL President and CEO Dr. Dodjie S. Maestrecampo emphasized that the partnership reflects the institution’s long-term commitment to environmental responsibility and aligns with key Sustainable Development Goals, including affordable and clean energy  and climate action.

“This is more than an energy shift—it’s a statement of values,” Maestrecampo said. “We hope to inspire our students to carry these principles forward as they lead future innovations and solutions.”
