The Japan Coast Guard (JCG) has provided new capacity building support to the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) through a week-long Towing Operation Training held recently as part of Japan’s official development assistance (ODA) program.
During the training, the JCG’s Mobile Cooperation Team (MCT) collaborated with PCG personnel—particularly those operating 44-meter patrol vessels provided by Japan—to review towing operation manuals, recommend improvements, and deliver technical guidance on command and supervision protocols during on-site maritime towing.
The initiative aims to strengthen the PCG’s operational readiness and maritime safety capabilities, aligning with broader regional goals of ensuring secure and stable waters amid evolving maritime challenges.
“This is part of Japan’s continuing support to enhance maritime law enforcement capabilities in the Philippines,” Japanese officials said, reaffirming the JCG’s long-term commitment to cooperation with the PCG.
The effort also reflects ongoing policy priorities between the two countries in promoting rule-based maritime order and advancing capacity development in the Indo-Pacific region.
