Newly confirmed Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon has pledged to fast-track major transportation infrastructure projects to help ease the daily burden of millions of commuters and deliver on President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive to make travel safer and more comfortable across the archipelago.
Dizon’s strong policy commitment came shortly after the Commission on Appointments (CA) officially approved his ad interim appointment on Wednesday, with lawmakers expressing overwhelming support for his leadership.
Addressing the CA on Tuesday, Dizon underscored the urgency of improving public transport, citing both the physical strain and lost hours suffered daily by commuters due to insufficient infrastructure.
“The President’s two instructions are clear: we need to make the travel of our countrymen more comfortable and safe,” Dizon said. “What our countrymen are going through is no joke—including the hardship of commuting. But the most painful thing is the time they lose every day because of the lack of infrastructure.“
He acknowledged that his marching orders from President Marcos were to accelerate the completion of ongoing projects that will directly benefit daily commuters. These include railway expansion, road decongestion initiatives, and improvements to the intermodal transport systems.
In thanking the commission for its support, Dizon reiterated his intention to follow through on the administration’s vision of commuter-centered mobility. “We will deliver projects that are efficient, safe, and comfortable for all commuters, in line with the President’s goal to uplift the lives of every Filipino through better transportation.”
Transportation is a critical pillar in the Marcos administration’s socioeconomic agenda, and Dizon’s leadership is expected to play a key role in translating that vision into visible improvements across the country. His appointment signals a renewed push to not only complete but accelerate transformative transport programs that promise to cut commute times and boost economic productivity.
