Fuel cost surge continues: up to P0.95/L increase Tuesday

Motorists will face higher fuel costs starting Tuesday as major and independent retailers implement across-the-board price hikes. Gasoline prices will increase by P0.60 per liter, diesel by P0.95, and kerosene by P0.30, marking the fourth straight week of increases for gasoline.

Seaoil and Caltex confirmed the full adjustments across all fuel types, while Clean Fuel, Jetti, and PTT will apply the same hikes to gasoline and diesel only. The timing of adjustments varies slightly, with Clean Fuel implementing the changes at 4:01 p.m. and others as early as 6:00 a.m.

According to Jetti Petroleum Inc. president Leo Bellas, the price surge is driven by rising global oil demand ahead of the summer driving season in the northern hemisphere, along with supply disruptions from ongoing refinery maintenance, low exports from China, and wildfires affecting Canadian production.

The Department of Energy’s Rodela Romero echoed these causes, adding that geopolitical tensions — including conflicts involving Russia, Ukraine, the U.S., and Iran — have intensified market pressures.

With these latest increases, the year-to-date net price change now stands at +P5.10/liter for gasoline, +P4.85 for diesel, and -P2.25 for kerosene, per DOE monitoring.

As of May 27, average pump prices in Metro Manila stood at P52.35/liter for gasoline (RON91), P53.35 for diesel, and P68.52 for kerosene.
