Alas Pilipinas, the Philippines’ national women’s volleyball team, took its frustration on New Zealand, dismissing the Volley Fens in three straight sets as competitions resumed Wednesday at the 2025 AVC women’s Volleyball Nations Cup in Hanoi, Vietnam.
Alas welcomed the return of opposite hitter Alyssa Solomon, who sat out the 5-set loss against Iran on Monday as she nursed a sprained ankle sustained in their win over Indonesia.
Outside hitter Eya Laure and Vannie Gandler led the team in scoring, each delivering 12 points. Laure, however, delivered the coup de grace that sealed the victory over New Zealand.
The score line was 25-17, 25-21, 25-18.
On June 12, Philippine Independence Day, Alas will take on still unbeaten Kazakhstan in a must-win game for the Filipinas to advance to the semifinals of this 11-nation tournament.
