Century Pacific wins for sustainable fishing award

Century Pacific Food, Inc. deepeed its sustainability commitments through Sustenido Bulan, a flagship initiative supporting smallholder fisherfolk in Bulan, Sorsogon. The program, which promotes inclusive growth and sustainable sardine fishing, earned Gold for Inclusive Growth and Silver for Care for the Environment at the 2025 Tambuli Awards.

The initiative’s impact is both measurable and transformative: a 10 percent reduction in fish rejection rates, over 850 new local jobs, and improved livelihoods for more than 200 fisherfolk. It also enabled the production of over 65 million sardine servings while reducing food and marine waste.

Through its RSPo Foundation, CNPF extended its Kain Po feeding program to reach more than 1,000 children in the area, delivering regular, protein-rich meals.

“Sustenido Bulan proves that real, lasting impact can drive shared prosperity,” said chief operating officer Greg Banzon. “Sustainability doesn’t have to be a cost—it can be a business advantage.”

Vice president and sardines general manager Ronald Agoncillo emphasized the human dimension: “We didn’t just improve fish quality—we helped empower lives.”

Faced with declining sardine stocks due to climate change and overfishing, the initiative offers a replicable model for industry resilience. By training fisherfolk in sustainable practices with support from local government and the Bureau of Fisheries, CNPF is building a future-proof supply chain for key brands like 555 and Ligo.

CNPF plans to scale Sustenido Bulan as part of its broader mission to nourish lives—profitably and sustainably.
