Singapore-Manila route hit as Jetstar Asia closes

Jetstar Asia (3K) has announced it will wind down operations and permanently cease flights by 31 July 2025, citing unsustainable cost pressures and intense regional competition. The move will directly impact the Singapore-to-Manila route, which currently operates up to 18 return services per week.

The carrier’s gradual schedule reduction will begin immediately, affecting passengers booked on affected flights leading up to the shutdown. According to Jetstar, passengers with confirmed bookings will be contacted in case of changes; otherwise, flights will operate as planned. Post-31 July 2025 bookings will be fully refunded.

The decision does not affect Jetstar Airways (JQ) flights between Australia and Southeast Asia, nor services by Jetstar Japan (GK).

The Jetstar Group emphasized that support measures are in place for impacted customers and staff. Flights on sale until the cessation date will continue to be available, with refunds and voucher conversion options provided starting August.

Jetstar first served the Philippine market in 2005 via its Singapore-based subsidiary, Jetstar Asia, with flights connecting Singapore to Manila’s Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA). Despite the availability of the more cost-effective Clark International Airport, the airline initially prioritized Manila for its strategic location.

In 2016, Jetstar Japan expanded the group’s footprint by launching its first international services beyond Japan. It introduced routes from Tokyo Narita, Osaka Kansai, and Nagoya Centrair to Manila, though some of these services were later discontinued.

In a renewed push into the market, Jetstar Asia resumed services to Clark International Airport in 2024 with four weekly return flights, later increasing to five weekly services from October 18, 2024.
