DOTr to build Talaba Station in P3-B LRT-1 extension push

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) will spend P3 billion to construct an additional station, theTalaba Stantion, under the Light Rail Transit Line 1 (LRT-1) Cavite Extension program, Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon announced Monday.

The Talaba station, located in Bacoor, Cavite, was requested by the local government to support the area’s ongoing development. “We requested roughly about P3 billion from the DBM and informed the LRMC about this two months ago,” Dizon said at the EJAP Infrastructure Forum.

The government will finance the station’s construction, while Light Rail Manila Corp., the system’s private operator, will manage its operations.

Talaba is part of Phase 3 of the LRT-1 Cavite Extension, which also includes Niog station. Phase 2 will comprise Las Piñas and Zapote stations, while Phase 1—with five new stations inaugurated in November 2023—is expected to cut travel time between Parañaque City and Quezon City by nearly one hour, serving an additional 80,000 daily passengers.

Once completed by 2030, the full 11.7-kilometer extension will reduce travel time from Baclaran to Bacoor to just 25 minutes. Dizon expressed confidence that Phase 2 will be operational by 2028.
