    Manila terminal debuts zero-emission e-trucks

The Manila International Container Terminal (MICT), the flagship port of International Container Terminal Services, Inc. (ICTSI), has launched the first fully electric terminal tractors in the Philippines, marking a key milestone in sustainable port operations.

Two Qomolo E-truck S2 units—manufactured by Shanghai Westwell Technology Co., Ltd.—have been deployed as part of a pilot initiative to modernize MICT’s operations with zero-emission equipment. The tractors, powered by lithium iron phosphate batteries and delivering up to 410kW of peak power, represent a step forward in ICTSI’s commitment to reduce its environmental footprint.

“The testing of electric terminal tractors is another step toward modernizing our operations with sustainability in mind,” said Christian Lozano, MICT CEO. “It supports our broader goal of transitioning the MICT into a green port.”

This initiative supports ICTSI’s corporate environmental strategy, which includes a commitment to achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. The company is gradually rolling out clean energy solutions and equipment upgrades across its global network of terminals.

The electric tractors will undergo operational assessments before potential broader deployment. Their introduction follows MICT’s 2023 recognition with the Green Port Award by the APEC Port Services Network, reinforcing the terminal’s leadership in sustainable port practices.
