Events, concerts drive Mall of Asia visitor surge

Something electric is happening at the Mall of Asia Complex, and it is not just the fireworks.

SM Prime Holdings Inc., one of Southeast Asia’s largest integrated property developers, saw a 15 percent rise in foot traffic during the first quarter of 2025, drawing in a whopping 34.5 million visitors.

What is pulling the crowds? A blockbuster lineup of events, for starters.

The Philippine International Pyromusical Competition lit up the bay and filled the complex nightly, as fireworks teams from around the globe competed for the skyline. Add to that a wave of global concerts—from Maroon 5 and NIKI to K-pop royalty like Baekhyun and Taeyeon—and the result was a quarter packed with energy.

“The Mall of Asia Complex demonstrates how our integrated, experience-led strategy—from retail and offices to education and entertainment—drives sustained foot traffic,” said SM Prime President Jeffrey C. Lim. “It is the SM ecosystem in full effect.”

The MOA Complex isn’t just a mall—it’s a lifestyle hub. Anchored by some of the country’s most iconic venues like the SM Mall of Asia, MOA Arena, and the world’s largest IKEA store, the estate has become a destination in itself.

SM Prime also credited the UAAP volleyball season for pulling in younger crowds and university communities.

“We are seeing sustained momentum toward experience-driven consumption,” Lim added. “So we are aligning our event strategy to capture that demand.”

The company’s net income rose 11 percent in the same period, powered largely by this bustling mall performance.
