Basketball Without Borders Asia 2025 Tips Off in Singapore

The NBA and FIBA kicked off the opening day of Basketball Without Borders (BWB) Asia on Thursday, June 19, at the Singapore Basketball Centre. BWB Asia 2025 is a key feature of the NBA’s newly launched multi-day basketball and entertainment festival, which will conclude with the NBA Rising Stars Invitational—the league’s first high school basketball tournament for the Asia-Pacific region.

Returning to Singapore for the first time since 2010, this 15th edition of BWB Asia also marked the 80th BWB camp overall. It brought together 60 young athletes (30 boys and 30 girls), all aged 17 and under, from 17 countries and territories across the Asia-Pacific. Participants had the chance to train and compete with one another while receiving guidance from current and former NBA and WNBA stars, including 2024 NBA champion Derrick White, NBA All-Star Tyrese Maxey, Duop Reath, and 2025 FIBA Hall of Fame inductee Ticha Penicheiro. They were joined by NBA assistant coaches Vinay Bhavnani (Toronto Raptors), Jared Dudley (Dallas Mavericks), Ronald Nored (Atlanta Hawks), and Khalid Robinson (Golden State Warriors). The camp was led by Patrick Hunt, President of the World Association of Basketball Coaches, with Katherine Babcock (Memphis Grizzlies) serving as athletic trainer.

Throughout the day, campers took part in skill-development drills focused on defense, pick-and-roll execution, layups, and three-point shooting, followed by 5-on-5 scrimmages. The day wrapped up with a Q&A panel featuring Dudley, Maxey, Penicheiro, Reath, White, and Kimberly Gaucher—FIBA’s Head of the Players Unit and a former WNBA player—giving attendees the opportunity to seek advice and insights into their basketball journeys.

BWB Asia 2025 is part of the NBA’s new immersive festival in Singapore, which will conclude with the NBA Rising Stars Invitational. The tournament will feature boys’ and girls’ high school teams from 11 Asia-Pacific countries, taking place at the Kallang Tennis Hub from June 25 to 29.
