    Maynilad welcomes 10-year RCA extension

Maynilad Water Services Inc. on Thursday lauded the Economic Development Council’s (ED Council) approval of a 10-year extension of the Revised Concession Agreement (RCA) with Metro Manila’s water concessionaires, allowing the company to operate until January 2047.

In a statement, Maynilad said the extended term provides critical regulatory stability, enabling the firm to pursue long-term infrastructure investments aimed at improving service delivery and ensuring water security for its customers.

“This development affirms the government’s commitment to ensuring affordable, reliable, and sustainable water services,” the company said, echoing ED Council chairman Arsenio Balisacan’s remarks on the importance of the extension in promoting the public interest.

Maynilad also expressed gratitude to the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) for its support, emphasizing that the extension supports strategic planning for capital expenditures across its West Zone service area.

The ED Council’s decision is expected to accelerate infrastructure investments, limit future tariff increases, and generate additional government revenues estimated at P50.3 billion, according to the Department of Economy, Planning and Development.

Meanwhile, Manila Water Co. Inc., which services the East Zone, confirmed in a regulatory disclosure that it has yet to receive formal notice of the extension.

Maynilad, the country’s largest private water concessionaire by customer base, operates in the West Zone covering parts of Metro Manila and Cavite province.
