NLEX speeds up Marilao Overpass Repairs

NLEX Corp. announced on Friday accelerated repair works at the Marilao Overpass Bridge that sustained damage caused by an overheight container truck, significantly affecting traffic flow in the area.

While the bridge is not part of the NLEX concession, the company said it is committed to public safety and motorist convenience. “The Marilao Overpass Bridge is part of the provincial road network of Bulacan and was constructed prior to the rehabilitation of the NLEX. It currently has a vertical clearance of 4.27 meters in both directions,” NLEX said in a statement.

Despite the bridge being outside its formal concession area, NLEX Corp. has taken the initiative to conduct the necessary repairs to ensure structural integrity. “In the interest of public safety, NLEX offers to construct a new and upgraded bridge to support the plans of the relevant national and local government agencies,” it added.

For several years, NLEX sought government support to structurally upgrade the bridge due to its strategic importance in regional connectivity.

Nevertheless, and in response to the incident, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) ordered the immediate suspension of toll collection on the northbound segment of the Marilao Interchange until all four lanes are fully operational, aiming to ease congestion and ensure motorist safety.

The expedited repair and proposed reconstruction are expected to improve traffic flow and reduce safety risks along this critical section of the North Luzon Expressway.
