    Powering Futures: Energy Meets Education

Meralco Power Academy (MPA) and Mindanao State University-General Santos (MSU-GenSan) have formed a groundbreaking partnership to turn classrooms into hubs of real-world energy innovation, lighting the way for the next generation of Filipino energy leaders.

The two institutions recently signed a memorandum of agreement that marks more than just a formal alliance—it signals a shared commitment to empower young engineers and scientists with the skills to thrive in a rapidly evolving energy landscape. Under the deal, students will gain access to specialized training, immersive industry experiences, and a front-row seat at events like the Mindanao leg of the Young Engineers and Scientists Summit.

“This collaboration is vital for MSU-General Santos,” said Chancellor Shidik T. Abantas. “It bridges our academic programs with the needs of the energy sector and ensures that our students aren’t just educated—they’re prepared.”

At a time when the world is pivoting toward renewable energy and emerging technologies like nuclear science and AI, this partnership arrives with purpose. For MPA, it’s part of a broader mission to future-proof the workforce by bringing academia and industry closer together.

MPA President and Meralco EVP Ronnie L. Aperocho called the partnership “especially meaningful,” noting MSU’s track record in producing top-tier electrical professionals. “We see great potential for collaboration in areas that align with our vision to become a center of excellence in energy and innovation.”

From Pasig to General Santos, the message is clear: the future of energy isn’t just coming—it’s being built today, student by student.
