Cebu Cube Ice Corp., known for its “Ice Man” brand, has renewed its renewable energy (RE) supply contract with First Gen Corp., solidifying a partnership that underscores both companies’ commitment to sustainable operations.
Signed on 17 June, the renewed agreement allows First Gen, one of the country’s leading clean energy providers, to continue supplying Cebu Cube Ice’s Mandaue City facility with an average of 600 kW of electricity per month from 100 percent renewable sources. The actual supply will scale with operational demand.
“This renewal reflects Cebu Cube Ice’s commitment to decarbonization, showing that sustainability is achievable for businesses of all sizes,” said Carlo Vega, First Gen’s chief customer engagement officer.
Cebu Cube Ice, a pioneer in adopting the government’s Green Energy Option Program (GEOP) in Cebu, first partnered with First Gen in 2022. GEOP enables large power consumers to directly contract with renewable suppliers under the Renewable Energy Act of 2008.
Company president and CEO Robert Tiu emphasized that using clean energy supports Cebu Cube Ice’s Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) compliance and corporate social responsibility goals. “We’re proud to produce purified ice to the highest standards while reducing our carbon footprint,” Tiu said.
With nearly 2,000 clients, including top hotels, supermarkets, and restaurants, Cebu Cube Ice continues to expand its operations with energy-efficient cold storage facilities and advanced purification processes.
First Gen currently operates 1,651 MW of RE capacity and 2,017 MW of natural gas capacity, contributing to the Philippines’ energy transition and security.
