Aboitiz Power Corp. is advancing its renewable energy (RE) strategy with the development of two major solar power projects in Ilocos Norte, totaling 538.48 megawatts (MW) and valued at P34.5 billion, according to filings with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources’ Environmental Management Bureau (EMB).
The larger of the projects, the 351.436 MW Currimao solar project, will feature a 337.8 megawatt-hour (MWh) battery energy storage system (BESS). Northern Sun Power Inc.. is developing the project costing P18.6 billion under a partly owned and partly leased basis.
The second development, the 187.044 MW Talingaan solar project pursued by North Luzon Green Power Inc., will include a 276.954 MWh BESS. It has a projected cost of P15.9 billion and will occupy a 114-hectare site fully owned by Aboitiz Power.
Construction is expected to begin in Q2 2027, with commercial operations targeted by 1Q 2029. The projects will boost energy security and offer cleaner power options for consumers while also supporting Aboitiz Power’s long-term RE expansion.
These Ilocos Norte developments are a key part of Aboitiz Power’s broader goal to add 3,600 MW in new renewable capacity by 2030—bringing its total to 4,600 MW in RE and 9,200 MW in combined capacity, reinforcing its commitment to a balanced and sustainable energy portfolio.
