Pilmico, LGU back Iligan farmers with new drying facility

Aboitiz Foods’ agribusiness arm Pilmico has partnered with the Iligan City government to establish a corn drying facility aimed at boosting post-harvest efficiency for yellow corn farmers in the region. Formalized through a memorandum of agreement, the initiative exemplifies a growing public-private partnership (PPP) model supporting rural infrastructure and value chain development.

The project will benefit farmers from eight barangays—Mandulog, Digkilaan, Rogongon, Dulag, Hindang, Kabacsanan, Bunawan, and Mainit—who have recently organized into the Iligan Agriculture Cooperative. The cooperative structure has improved access to markets and support services, according to Pilmico.

“This partnership is a testament to what can be achieved when the government, private sector, and community come together with a common purpose to uplift our farmers and strengthen the agricultural value chain,” said Alexis Revantad, Pilmico vice president for operations.

The corn dryer, part of the broader Project Silk program launched in 2017 in Bukidnon, underscores the policy significance of integrated support systems—from production to market integration—amid declining national corn output, which fell 3.3% year-on-year to 8.13 million metric tons in 2024 (Philippine Statistics Authority).

While investment details were not disclosed, the partnership reflects national efforts to align private sector capability with local government initiatives in pursuit of sustainable agricultural growth.
