BSP chronicles leadership in new book series

The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) marked its 32nd anniversary with the launch of The Governors Speak, a landmark three-volume book series chronicling the institution’s evolution through the speeches of its past and present leaders.

Unveiled at the BSP headquarters in Manila, The Governors Speak presents a curated collection of addresses by Philippine central bank governors, capturing key shifts in monetary policy, institutional reforms, and the country’s broader economic journey. The series frames the development of central banking not just through policies, but through the leadership voices that shaped its course.

“Central banking is more than just about interest rates and macroeconomic models. It’s also about clear, credible, and timely communication,” said BSP Governor Eli M. Remolona, Jr., highlighting the role of narrative in shaping public trust and institutional credibility.

The series is structured across three historical phases:

    • Volume I: Early Governance and Pioneering Efforts (1949–1993) – Featuring speeches from the seven governors of the original Central Bank of the Philippines.
    • Volume II: Transformative Leadership (1993–2017) – Showcasing the vision and direction of the first four governors of the reestablished BSP.
    • Volume III: Current Initiatives and Forward-Thinking (2017–Present) – Reflecting on recent strategies and the BSP’s response to evolving financial challenges.

The launch event gathered former governors Jose L. Cuisia, Jr., Amando M. Tetangco, Jr., and Benjamin E. Diokno, alongside current BSP officials and industry stakeholders, underscoring the institutional continuity and collective leadership behind the central bank’s resilience and adaptability.

The digital volumes are now accessible via the BSP’s official website, serving as both a historical archive and a leadership chronicle of the country’s monetary authority.
