MGen unveils PH’s largest solar plant in Nueva Ecija

Meralco PowerGen Corp. (MGen) renewable energy unit MGreen and affiliate Terra Solar Philippines Inc., have rated the Nueva Ecija-Bulacan solar project as the largest operational solar facility in the Philippines. With 778 MW of photovoltaic capacity now installed—surpassing the 384.8 MW San Marcelino solar plant by ACEN—this marks a step forward in MGen’s clean energy ambitions.

Dennis Jordan, president and CEO of both MGreen and Terra Solar, credited the milestone to collaborative efforts between corporate teams, government partners, and local communities. The facility forms part of a two-phase project that will total 3,500 MW of solar capacity and 4,000 MWh of battery energy storage by 2027. Once completed, MTerra Solar is projected to become the world’s largest integrated solar and battery facility capable of powering 2.4 million homes and offsetting 4.3 million tons of carbon emissions annually.

The project is being built with global and local partner participation, including Energy China, POWERCHINA, Meralco Industrial Engineering Services Corp., and Huawei, which is supplying the storage systems.

MGen’s continued expansion includes the addition of 85.2 MW of solar capacity in 2025, including projects in Cordon, Isabela and Baras, Rizal, reinforcing its leadership in utility-scale renewable development in the country.
