PAL revives Manila-Sapporo flights, boosting Japan ties and winter travel market

Philippine Airlines (PAL) has announced the revival of its nonstop seasonal flights between Manila (MNL) and Sapporo (CTS), reopening a key air link to Hokkaido, Japan. The service resumes in November this year and will run through March 2026 using PAL’s 168-seater Airbus A321neo. The route is expected to operate every winter season going forward.

According to PAL president Richard Nuttall, the reinstated service enhances bilateral and cultural ties between the Philippines and Japan while supporting tourism and business travel. The move is seen as a strategic boost for both Filipino and Japanese markets, offering convenient access to Sapporo’s globally renowned winter attractions, including ski resorts and the Sapporo Snow Festival.

The A321neo features business and economy cabins, in-flight entertainment, and Wi-Fi, catering to both leisure and corporate passengers.

PAL’s return to Sapporo—last served from 2018 to 2020—complements its leading network in Japan, which includes direct flights to Tokyo (Haneda and Narita), Osaka, Nagoya, and Fukuoka, with additional Japan-bound services from Cebu.
