The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed three major revetment and flood control projects in Camarines Sur, Sorsogon, and Masbate, aimed at protecting coastal and riverside communities from flooding.
DPWH Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan said the projects align with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. ‘s “Build Better More” program, which prioritizes disaster-resilient infrastructure. Completed in early 2025, the structures now safeguard Barangay Tabuco in Naga City, Barangay Bitan-o in Sorsogon City, and Barangays San Antonio and Diotay in Balud, Masbate.
According to DPWH Region V director Virgilio C. Eduarte, the 1.08-kilometer Naga City revetment includes steel sheet piles, riprap, and slope protection to prevent river overflow. Sorsogon City’s project features a 470-meter seawall and 226.9-meter river control structure benefiting nearby coastal communities. In Masbate, a 260-meter riverbank protection structure was constructed on both sides of a river dividing two barangays.
The P340.45-million initiative was implemented by DPWH district offices in the respective provinces.
