Majority of Filipinos urge VP Duterte to address impeachment—SWS

Two in three Filipinos believe Vice President Sara Duterte should face the impeachment charges against her, according to a June 2025 nationwide survey by Social Weather Stations (SWS), commissioned by the Stratbase Group.

The survey found that 66 percent of respondents support Duterte confronting the corruption allegations through the formal process, signaling strong public demand for transparency and accountability. The poll was conducted from 25 to 29 June among 1,200 adults, with a ±3 percent margin of error nationwide.

Support was weakest in Mindanao, Duterte’s home region, where only 55 percent backed her facing the charges. Awareness of the case was already high nationwide, with 59 percent of Filipinos saying they knew of the impeachment effort prior to being polled—peaking at 68 percent in Metro Manila.

Stratbase Group president Victor Andres “Dindo” Manhit called the findings a sign of growing civic engagement: “Filipinos are watching closely and expect democratic institutions to act decisively and impartially.”

The survey also showed that 44 percent of respondents believe the Senate is intentionally delaying the impeachment trial, reflecting rising skepticism toward institutional response.

Manhit warned that any perception of political interference risks further eroding public trust in governance.
