Aboitiz Power Corp.’s renewable energy arm Aboitiz Renewables Inc., has secured the certificate of approval to connect from the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) for its 137.4 MW Calatrava solar power project in Negros Occidental. This development clears the way for the facility’s commercial operation and formal integration into the national grid.
The project marks a key advancement in bolstering regional power supply and supporting the country’s renewable energy targets. “This milestone adds significant capacity to the grid and helps electricity suppliers meet Renewable Portfolio Standards or RPS obligations,” said Aboitiz Renewables president Jimmy Villaroman.
The Calatrava plant is part of Aboitiz Power’s broader renewable energy expansion, with two more solar projects in Luzon—Olongapo (95 percent complete) and San Manuel—set for commissioning in Q3 2025. These facilities will connect to NGCP’s Castillejos and San Manuel substations, respectively.
Aboitiz Power has earmarked ₱78.1 billion in capex for 2025, aligned with its strategy to build 3,600 MW of new renewable capacity and achieve a balanced 9,200 MW portfolio by 2030.
