Global digital gaming company DigiPlus Interactive Corp. has announced its entry into South Africa, describing the country as the continent’s most mature and commercially significant online gambling market. The move signals a key step in DigiPlus’ expansion across emerging digital economies, following its recent launch in Brazil.
The company is in the process of applying for three core licenses — a national manufacturer license, bookmaker license, and bookmaker premises license — with the Western Cape Gambling and Racing Board, widely regarded as South Africa’s premier regulatory authority for iGaming. The applications are part of DigiPlus’ efforts to establish a formal corporate presence in the country, including the formation of a locally compliant legal entity.
“South Africa is not just the largest online gaming market in Africa, it’s a gateway to the continent’s digital future,” said DigiPlus chairman Eusebio Tanco. He emphasized the company’s focus on responsible innovation, regulatory compliance, and locally resonant gaming experiences.
The South African online betting market is valued at over R28.97 billion (approximately US$1.6 billion) and continues to grow, driven by mobile penetration, digital engagement, and strong interest in real-time sports wagering — now accounting for nearly half of the sector’s revenue. Industry observers see the market as a regional bellwether, with pending legislation such as the Remote Gambling Bill poised to further open up the digital casino space.
Licensing in South Africa includes rigorous vetting processes and typically spans a minimum of six months, underscoring the market’s regulatory maturity. DigiPlus’ expansion reflects its ambition to position itself as a leading player in regulated, high-growth markets across the Global South.
