Bank of Commerce, the country’s 15th largest lender and a member of the San Miguel Group, said its board has elected Antonio Abacan Jr. as an independent director to serve the unfinished term of Rebecca Maria Ynares, who has resigned.
In addition to his board seat, Abacan will serve as Chairman of the Nomination, Compensation, and Remuneration Committee, and as a member of both the Audit Committee and the Related Party Transactions Committee.
Abacan brings extensive leadership and regulatory experience. He previously served as president and chairman of Metropolitan Bank & Trust Co., and was a member of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas’ Monetary Board from July 2017 to July 2023. He currently sits as an independent director on the boards of COSCO Capital Inc., San Miguel Food and Beverage Inc., and Primex Realty Corp.
He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration, majoring in Banking and Finance from Mapua Institute of Technology, and in Accounting from Far Eastern University. He also completed an executive program at the Graduate School of Business at Stanford University.
