Globe pushes digital inclusion in Tawi-Tawi with 2,000 new cell sites

Globe Telecom reaffirmed its commitment to digital inclusion and infrastructure development during the Digital Bayanihan event in Tawi-Tawi, led by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT).

As a private sector partner in the national digitalization drive, Globe highlighted sustained investments in connectivity projects aimed at underserved areas. In 2024 alone, the company built and upgraded around 2,000 cell sites across Mindanao and continues to expand its fiber network to enhance mobile and broadband services.

“Connectivity is a human right,” said Robert Aquino, Globe assistant Vice president for government relations. “We remain steadfast in our mission to bridge the digital divide and empower communities like Tawi-Tawi through infrastructure and digital tools.”

Beyond infrastructure, Globe’s community-focused programs include partnerships with government agencies such as the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD). The company recently distributed nearly 500 mobile phones to 4Ps beneficiaries, enabling access to government aid via GCash and other essential services.

Aquino added that Globe promotes responsible internet use to foster economic mobility and digital resilience in remote communities.

The event was attended by top government officials, including DICT secretary Henry Aguda, NTC commissioner Ella Blanca Lopez, and Tawi-Tawi governor Yshmael Sali, emphasizing the collaborative thrust behind Digital Bayanihan.

Globe’s continued participation in such initiatives reflects its strategic alignment with national connectivity goals and its broader commercial objective to grow its footprint in emerging markets while advancing inclusive digital development.
