ICTSI to invest $800M in new container terminal in Batangas

Global port operator International Container Terminal Services, Inc. (ICTSI) has announced an $800 million plan to develop the Luzon International Container Terminal (LICT) in Bauan, Batangas—set to become the country’s second-largest container terminal after Manila International Container Terminal (MICT).

Touted as the largest privately funded marine terminal in the country’s history, LICT is designed to boost national port infrastructure and enhance international trade competitiveness. The facility will span 56.21 hectares and accommodate next-generation mega-ships with depths of up to 18 meters.

Strategically located near Batangas City and 120 kilometers south of Manila, LICT will serve as a key gateway to the CALABARZON region, a major hub for industrial and export activity. The terminal will benefit from direct links to major roads and upcoming expressways, improving connectivity and inland logistics.

Construction is set to begin in Q3 2025, with the first berth expected by end-2027 and full operations by 2028. ICTSI plans to equip the terminal with automated systems and sustainable technologies, supporting both operational efficiency and environmental goals.

Once operational, LICT is expected to ease congestion at Metro Manila ports, attract regional investments, create thousands of jobs, and provide a vital logistics alternative for Southern Luzon.
