Indonesia’s first A400M completes maiden flight in Seville

The first Airbus A400M military transport aircraft for the Indonesian Air Force successfully completed its maiden flight from Airbus Defence and Space’s final assembly line in Seville, marking a key milestone toward delivery later this year.

According to Airbus, the aircraft underwent extensive ground testing before takeoff and completed in-flight evaluations of engines, flight controls, hydraulics, and avionics. A second A400M for Indonesia is advancing through the assembly process, currently undergoing fuel system checks before entering the paintshop and subsequent test phases.

Indonesia ordered two A400Ms in 2021, becoming the 10th country to join the A400M program. Designed for strategic airlift missions, the aircraft can carry 30 tons over 2,400 nautical miles, operate from unpaved runways, and provide aerial refueling—making it well-suited to the archipelagic nation’s logistics and disaster relief needs.
