The Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) has approved the application of Alabat Wind Power Corp., a subsidiary of Alternergy Holdings Corp., to connect its Alabat Wind Power Project to the Luzon power grid.
The project, located in the municipalities of Alabat and Quezon in Quezon province, was granted permission to build and operate a dedicated point-to-point transmission facility.
This includes the development of a substation at the wind farm and a 37-kilometer transmission line connecting Barangay Villa Norte in Alabat to Barangay Hondagua in Lopez. From there, the facility will interconnect with the 69kV Gumaca-Tagkawayan-Lopez transmission line operated by the National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP) via a switching station.
“This is another significant milestone achieved, bringing us closer to completing the Alabat Wind Power Project,” said Alabat Wind President Gerry P. Magbanua. He thanked both the ERC and NGCP for their support in facilitating the delivery of clean, renewable power to the Luzon grid.
Magbanua added that the project reflects AWPC’s commitment to environmental sustainability and energy security while benefiting host communities through renewable energy development.
The Alabat Wind Power Project is one of five renewable energy developments currently under construction by Alternergy. These projects form part of the company’s “Road to 500 MW” target, aiming to bring 500 megawatts of clean energy online by 2026.
With regulatory approvals now in place, Alabat Wind is moving closer to energizing the facility and contributing to the Philippines’ growing clean energy portfolio.
