BPI app update adds stronger security features for safer mobile banking

The Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) has released version 13.1 of its mobile app, introducing advanced security features aimed at combating evolving cyber threats. Rolled out at the end of July on iOS, Android, and Huawei platforms, the update is designed to detect and prevent unauthorized access, background threats, and app interference.

“These enhancements are part of our ongoing efforts to deliver secure and seamless digital banking services,” said Fitzgerald Chee, BPI’s head of consumer platforms.

The update may trigger security alerts—such as “device security compromised”—particularly on Android devices. BPI advises users to disable full-screen overlays (often used by antivirus apps) and, for Samsung users, to run the app within Secure Folder for added protection.

BPI urges clients to update their app and follow the provided security recommendations to ensure uninterrupted access to mobile banking.
