DOE highlights role of PV installers in energy transition

The Department of Energy (DOE) underscored the critical role of registered solar photovoltaic (PV) installers in accelerating the country’s renewable energy (RE) transition, particularly in achieving 100 percent solar power in government buildings nationwide.

In a statement released following the general assembly of DOE-registered solar PV installers in Taguig City, DOE undersecretary Felix William Fuentebella called for deeper public-private collaboration, noting that “the government is committed to creating an enabling environment for renewable energy, but we need your help to make this real.”

The DOE said that expanding the pool of registered solar installers is vital not only for meeting national energy efficiency goals, but also for generating jobs and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The agency highlighted the importance of the ongoing Solar PV Installer Registry and the need for knowledge sharing on compliance mechanisms, new technologies, and available incentives.

This initiative aligns with the 2023 Inter-Agency Energy Efficiency and Conservation Committee (IAEECC) resolution mandating all government entities—including GOCCs, LGUs, and state universities—to source at least 20 percent of their electricity needs from renewable energy within three years, under the Government Energy Management Program.

The DOE said full solar coverage in government buildings would significantly lower electricity consumption and contribute meaningfully to national decarbonization targets.
