Gov’t breaks ground on new Siargao Airport Terminal

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) and the Department of Tourism (DOT) officially broke ground on a new passenger terminal building (PTB) for Siargao Airport, aiming to enhance travel convenience and support the island’s growing tourism sector.

The initiative follows President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive to upgrade Siargao’s infrastructure to foster economic growth through increased tourism and trade.

Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon said the new terminal will improve passenger experience and solidify Siargao’s position as a premier tourist gateway, noting the current facility’s frequent overcrowding.

Slated for completion in eight months, the upgraded terminal will triple the airport’s current capacity from 200 to at least 750 passengers daily.

The project is part of a bundled unsolicited Public-Private Partnership (PPP) proposal by JG Summit and Filinvest Groups, which also covers the modernization of Davao and Bicol airports.
