DOTr targets 2026 mompletion of España–Quezon Ave Busway feasibility study

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) said that the feasibility study for the proposed busway connecting España Boulevard and Quezon Avenue is set to be completed by 2026, marking a key step in the broad government effort to modernize urban transit infrastructure.

Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon confirmed that the study is being funded by the Asian Development Bank (ADB), and aims to replicate the success of the EDSA Bus Carousel by creating a dedicated bus lane for commuters, particularly students, traveling between Manila and Quezon City.

“This project will be commuter-centric, just as the President has directed,” Dizon said, emphasizing the administration’s shift away from car-centric transport policies.

The announcement comes amid ongoing efforts to upgrade the existing EDSA Busway system. Last week, Dizon and Budget Secretary Amenah Pangandaman conducted inspections of the SM North and North Avenue stations, following President Marcos Jr.’s call to expedite the modernization of public transport infrastructure.

Renovation of the EDSA Busway stations will begin this year, starting with four priority stations under Phase 1. Phase 2 will include upgrades to PITX and Cubao stations, with all future stations modeled after the upgraded SM North terminal to improve commuter comfort.

The EDSA Busway currently serves approximately 250,000 passengers daily.
