Manila Water builds earthquake-resilient San Juan reservoir

Manila Water is constructing a ₱932-million earthquake-resilient reservoir in Quezon City to strengthen water supply reliability for the rapidly growing cities of Quezon City, San Juan, and Mandaluyong. The San Juan Reservoir, located along N. Domingo Street, will have a capacity of 56 million liters and is engineered to withstand earthquakes up to magnitude 7.2.

Replacing the original 1968-built facility, the new reservoir will feature upgraded mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation systems in line with modern engineering standards. The project underscores Manila Water’s commitment to resilient infrastructure amid rising demand for clean water in Metro Manila.

As of July 2025, construction is 26.9 percent complete and remains on schedule for full completion by 3Q 2026. Ongoing work includes excavation, concreting, and foundation reinforcement, with noise-reduction measures in place to minimize impact on nearby communities.

Manila Water described the reservoir as a strategic investment in long-term water security and disaster preparedness for the East Zone.
