AWS re/Start program helps Filipinos launch tech careers

The second batch of the AWS re/Start program, backed by Chevron Philippines and implemented with Edukasyon.ph, has achieved notable success, with over 60 percent of scholars securing employment within three months from graduation.

The initiative, designed to upskill unemployed and underemployed individuals for entry-level cloud computing roles, saw 31 out of 50 graduates, or 62 percent, land jobs across a diverse range of sectors, including multinational corporations, government agencies, and tech startups.

Of the employed graduates, 80.64 percent have joined Philippine-based organizations such as Samsung Research Philippines, Kyndryl Philippines, and the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), while the remaining 19.36 percent have obtained remote positions with international employers like Fujitsu Singapore and CarParts.com.

The AWS re/Start curriculum covers key cloud topics—ranging from networking and security to programming and data analysis—and includes job placement support. Edukasyon.ph plays a crucial role in bridging graduates to local and global employers, helping them start sustainable tech careers.

Chevron Philippines expressed pride in the program’s impact. “It truly warms our hearts to witness our former scholars thriving,” said Raissa Bautista, senior corporate advisor. “We are committed to uplifting communities through education and livelihood development.”

The program not only empowers individuals like career shifter Maria Adelide dela Cruz, who described the experience as life-changing, but also contributes to the country’s digital economy by building a skilled local workforce prepared for the demands of the global tech industry.
