Public-private pact powers Bacolod Rum Festival

The City Government of Bacolod and Tanduay Distillers Inc. have renewed their strategic partnership for the 5th Tanduay Bacolod Rum Festival, scheduled from 28 to 31 August, in alignment with the global observance of Rum Month.

Launched in 2019, the event highlights a successful local government-private sector collaboration that promotes cultural tourism, supports local industries, and advances the city’s identity as a hub of craftsmanship and world-class rum-making. Bacolod Mayor Greg Gasataya hailed the festival as a point of national pride and a showcase of how local heritage can power economic and cultural development.

“This is not just Bacolod’s pride, it’s the pride of the entire nation,” Gasataya said, emphasizing the festival’s role in connecting the city’s sugarcane legacy with global recognition for Filipino rum.

With the theme “Ilabas ang Natatagong Galing,” the festival will feature street parades, culinary events, rum tastings, live performances, and educational activities on rum-making — spotlighting Bacolod’s talent and growing influence in the Philippine cocktail scene. Headline performers include Zack Tabudlo, Mayonnaise, and Tanduay ambassadors Derek Ramsay and Julia Barretto.

More than a cultural event, the partnership demonstrates effective policy direction by leveraging local strengths through private sector engagement, driving tourism and boosting the local economy.

The extended Food Park runs until 31 August, capping the four-day celebration of culture, craftsmanship, and community.
