The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has appointed Andrew Jeffries as its new Country Director for the Philippines. He assumes his new role on Monday, August 18.
Jeffries will lead ADB operations in the Philippines, which hosts the bank’s headquarters and maintains an active project portfolio worth around USD13 billion. He will be responsible for implementing ADB’s Country Partnership Strategy 2024–2029 and strengthening collaboration with the Philippine government, private sector, and development partners.
“I am delighted to be back working in the Philippines, a country which majority of us in ADB call home,” Jeffries said. “The economy is at a critical juncture, with huge infrastructure and social protection investments rolling out and starting to bear fruit. My immediate priority is to ensure ADB supports the government’s development priorities, while also scaling up private sector participation.”
Jeffries brings more than 34 years
of professional experience, including over 18 years with ADB.
Before his appointment, he served as Advisor for ADB’s Energy Transition Mechanism and Partnerships, leading regional efforts in energy transition.
He was ADB’s Country Director for Vietnam from 2020 to 2023, and earlier served as Director of the Southeast Asia Energy Division, where he managed energy infrastructure investments and regional cooperation. He also led energy sector operations in India and South Asia.
Before joining ADB in 2007, Jeffries held senior positions at Fortis Capital Corp. and GE Capital’s Global Energy Division in the U.S. He holds a master’s in international economic policy from Columbia University and a bachelor’s in economics from Bucknell University.
