PH-Vietnam JV expands EV charging in fuel stations nationwide

Phoenix Petroleum Philippines Inc. has partnered with Vietnam’s V-Green Charging Station Development Philippines Inc. to deploy electric vehicle (EV) chargers across Phoenix fuel stations nationwide, in a move that bolsters the country’s growing EV infrastructure and advances clean mobility.

Under the agreement, Phoenix will lease dedicated spaces at its fuel stations to V-Green for EV charger installation. Three sites in Luzon are already under construction, with Cebu and Davao locations lined up for the next phase. The initiative targets enhanced charging access for VinFast EV users, particularly those under Green and Smart Mobility Joint Stock Co. (Green GSM), a Vietnam-based electric ride-hailing service.

“This move reflects our dual-energy approach, combining traditional fuels with emerging clean technologies,” said Kim Ira Cabaccang, Phoenix Petroleum general manager for retail. V-Green Philippines CEO Luu Viet Hung added that the collaboration allows them “to reach even more communities and build a nationwide charging network.”

The partnership follows a similar tie-up last month between V-Green, Green GSM, and Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) to jointly develop EV infrastructure and electric taxi hubs across Metro Manila and key urban areas. Meralco’s subsidiary, Movem Electric Inc., is also involved in EV initiatives.

The Department of Energy reported 1,104 EV charging points in the country as of July 2025, supporting a modest but growing EV fleet of over 24,000 units—still just 0.2 percent of the country’s 14.6 million registered vehicles.
