The Department of Transportation (DOTr), through the Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB), has issued a directive requiring all airlines to provide passengers with timely and accurate updates on flight status, in line with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive to improve the travel experience for Filipinos.
Citing Sections 8 to 11 of the Air Passenger Bill of Rights (APBR), the DOTr reminded carriers of their legal obligation to promptly inform passengers of any flight delays, cancellations, or changes, and to offer immediate assistance, including refunds when applicable.
The DOTr stressed that delayed notifications can severely disrupt travel plans and lead to unexpected costs for passengers, such as meals or lodging. It reiterated that airlines must respect the full value of the service purchased and prioritize passenger safety, convenience, and welfare.
CAB data showed strong air travel demand last year, with 32.1 million domestic and 27.7 million international passengers recorded.
