Japanese drugstore giant Sugi enters PH with AC Health

Ayala Healthcare Holdings Inc. (AC Health) has partnered with Japan’s Sugi Holdings Co. Ltd., one of the country’s largest pharmacy chains, to distribute Japanese pharmaceutical and wellness products across the Philippines.

The deal marks Sugi Holdings’ first formal entry into the Philippine market and signals a significant commercial move for both companies. Under the agreement, AC Health will make Sugi’s house-brand products and wellness solutions available through its pharmacy network—comprising over 800 branches of Generika Drugstore and St. Joseph Drug nationwide.

“This partnership allows us to bring Japanese-quality healthcare innovations closer to Filipino consumers at a time when the demand for trusted and differentiated wellness options continues to grow,” said Yet Abarca, president and CEO of AC Health Pharma.

Sugi Holdings operates approximately 2,300 stores in Japan under the Sugi Pharmacy banner and has expanded to markets such as Taiwan, Vietnam, and Malaysia. The partnership with AC Health is part of Sugi’s broader regional growth strategy.

“We feel truly fortunate to have met a partner here that we can trust from the bottom of our hearts,” said Tsuyoshi Yamamoto, director and CEO of S. Trading, the international arm of Sugi. “With AC Health, I honestly believe we have found the best partners in the Philippines because we want people to enjoy our high quality and affordable Japanese products.”

Paolo Borromeo, president and CEO of AC Health, emphasized the commercial and strategic significance of the partnership: “As we continue to build a comprehensive health ecosystem, collaborations like this enable us to offer more trusted options and deliver better health outcomes across the country.”

The collaboration reinforces AC Health Pharma’s growing reputation as the go-to Philippine partner for regional and global healthcare companies, enabling faster access to innovative, high-quality products aligned with Filipino consumer demand.
