NLEX Corp. reports ₱7.3B 1H profit, up 31%

NLEX Corp. posted a 31 percent increase in net income to ₱7.3 billion in the first half of 2025, up from ₱5.5 billion a year ago, reflecting stronger operational and financial performance driven by higher vehicular traffic and toll rate hikes.

The toll operator, which manages the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) and Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX), reported ₱14.6 billion in toll revenues, marking a 19 percent year-on-year increase.

“This was mainly due to increased average vehicular traffic volume and toll rate adjustments implemented in March 2025 in NLEX,” the company said in a statement, adding that the NLEX Connector also sustained traffic growth through targeted promotional campaigns.

Average daily traffic reached 356,392 vehicles on NLEX and 84,081 on SCTEX, representing 1 percent and 3 percent increases, respectively, from the same period last year. Meanwhile, the NLEX Connector logged 20,467 daily vehicle entries during the same period.

The company’s largest expense was revenue sharing with government partners, including a ₱1.3 billion share paid to the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA), which holds a 50 percent stake in SCTEX revenues. The Philippine National Construction Corp. (PNCC) also saw an 18 percent increase in its share from NLEX revenues due to higher traffic volumes and toll rates.

Operationally, repairs and maintenance costs fell 12 percent, attributed to improved inventory of spare parts for fixed equipment.

The financial improvement reinforces NLEX Corp.’s strategic role in Philippine infrastructure, particularly as the operator of over 196 kilometers of expressways that serve as vital arteries linking Metro Manila to Central and Northern Luzon.

NLEX Corp. has operated the expressway since 2005 under a long-term concession agreement. The SCTEX, developed by BCDA in 2008 with Japanese financing, continues to serve as a critical link for regional economic zones.
