Mastercard names new Asia Pacific president

Mastercard has announced a significant leadership transition in its Asia Pacific operations, with Ari Sarker stepping down as president, Asia Pacific, at the end of 2025. After over a decade in the role, Sarker will assume an advisory position, focusing on strategic initiatives and mentoring to ensure a smooth handover.

Effective 1 January 2026, Richard Wormald, currently division president of Australasia, will succeed Sarker. Wormald brings extensive regional experience and a track record of driving innovation and stakeholder engagement across Australasia.

Ling Hai, Mastercard president for Asia Pacific, Europe, Middle East and Africa, praised Sarker’s impact: “Ari’s influence across the region has been profound. He’s championed innovation and inclusion and built deep relationships with governments, fintechs, and enterprises.”

To facilitate the transition, Sarker and Wormald will collaborate closely in the coming months through joint market engagements.

In a further leadership move, Mastercard announced that Paul Monnington will join as division president, Australasia, in January 2026, reporting to Wormald. Monnington, who previously led Woolworths’ Wpay and held senior roles at Woolworths Group and NAB, will oversee operations in Australia, New Zealand, and the Pacific Islands.

The leadership changes reflect Mastercard’s continued focus on strong, values-driven leadership and strategic growth in one of its most dynamic regions.
