DICT targets Tier 1 status in global cybersecurity index

The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) is intensifying efforts to elevate the Philippines to Tier 1 status in the Global Cybersecurity Index (GCI), a benchmark developed by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) that assesses national cybersecurity frameworks across five key pillars: Legal, Technical, Organizational, Capacity Development, and Cooperation.

Currently ranked as Tier 2 – Advancing, with a score of 93.49 in the 2024 GCI, the Philippines is seeking to join the ranks of nations recognized for having the most advanced cybersecurity systems. DICT Secretary Henry Aguda emphasized that achieving Tier 1 is both a regulatory milestone and a national imperative, aimed at strengthening digital trust, protecting critical infrastructure, and fostering innovation.

The DICT’s ongoing initiatives reflect a strategic push to enhance policy, infrastructure, and cross-sector collaboration, aligning the country with international standards and positioning it as a global cybersecurity leader.
