AirAsia revives Cebu flights amid tourism surge

AirAsia Philippines is set to reopen five key routes from its Cebu hub starting 15 November 2025, aiming to tap into the region’s surging tourism market and strengthen both domestic and international connectivity.

The carrier will relaunch domestic flights to Iloilo (ILO), Caticlan (MPH), and Davao (DVO), alongside international services to Kuala Lumpur (KUL) and Macau (MFM), all operating out of Mactan-Cebu International Airport using Airbus A320 aircraft.

The move comes as Metro Cebu continues to establish itself as a key travel gateway in Central Visayas, supported by strong demand.

According to the Department of Tourism Region 7, tourist arrivals in 2024 reached 5.1 million, underscoring the region’s potential as a major tourism and commercial hub.

“Cebu remains a major driver in realizing our growth story in the Philippines,” said AirAsia Philippines CEO Suresh Bangah, emphasizing the strategic value of Cebu as a launchpad for connecting to both domestic and regional leisure destinations.

The airline’s expansion is expected to have broader economic ripple effects—stimulating tourism, generating local employment, and supporting infrastructure needs.

As part of the ramp-up, AirAsia’s Flight Operations Departmentrecently welcomed hundreds of pilot, cabin crew, and ground staff applicants to be deployed to the Cebu hub.

The timing also aligns with the start of the peak holiday travel season, positioning AirAsia to capture increased passenger traffic during the “ber” months.

AirAsia, a leading low-cost carrier operating across five ASEAN countries, is pursuing its vision of becoming the world’s first global low-cost network carrier, already serving over 130 destinations and 800 million guests to date. With sustainability and growth at its core, the airline continues to expand its network while working toward a net-zero emissions goal by 2050.
